Jitka Wirthová is the Principal Investigator of the project. She works as a sociologist at the Institute of Sociological Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University and is a visiting researcher at the University of Tampere. She has a long-standing interest in the relationship between action and social space, using primarily qualitative research methods. Her research, therefore, combines the sociology of agency and knowledge with social topology, the politics of expertise, and studies of digital infrastructures. Her research examines various initiatives aimed at social change that connect educational, technological, and expert solutionisms. She is also active in the Sociologies of Education (EERA) network and is a member of the editorial board of the European Educational Research Journal (EERJ, Sage).

Nelli Piattoeva is Jitka Wirthová’s project supervisor. Nelli is a professor of sociology and education at Tampere University, Faculty of Education and Culture. She is a director of EDUKNOW – Knowledge, Power, and Politics in Education, and  TRANSIT – The Research Centre on Transnationalism and Transformation. Her research examines how the historical role of education as a conduit of national socialisation is reenacted today through discourses of digitalization and digital applications constituting contemporary school education. Her previous works have focused on the governance of education through assessment data, childhood memories of Cold War geopolitical divides and international development assistance to education.

Nelli’s primary geographical focus of research is the post-Soviet space.
